Islamabad: In a significant escalation of violence in Balochistan, the armed separatist group Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) carried out an unprecedented attack using a female suicide bomber against a heavily guarded Pakistan Frontier Corps complex. The complex, located in Chagai district, is a hub for Chinese copper and gold mining projects. Reports confirm that six Pakistani personnel were killed in Sunday evening’s assault.
This marks the first time the BLF has deployed a female fidayeen, following in the footsteps of another Baloch insurgent group, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which previously used female attackers through its Majid Brigade.
BLF Releases Identity of Female Bomber
BLF released the photo of the attacker, identified as Zarina Rafiq, also known as Trang Mahu. The group claimed that Zarina detonated herself at a barrier, allowing BLF fighters to enter the main complex. According to sources cited by TOI, the targeted facility is linked to Chinese companies and a Canadian firm managing the Saindak and Reko-Dik mining projects, highlighting BLF’s strategy to target foreign economic interests.
Fidayeen Operation Carried Out by SOB Unit
In a statement on Telegram, BLF spokesperson Gwahram Baloch said the operation was executed by the group’s suicide unit, the Saddo Operation Battalion (SOB), named in honor of martyr commander Waja Saddo, also known as Sadath Mari.
Meanwhile, the BLA also released a statement claiming multiple attacks across Balochistan between November 28–29. According to the group, 27 Pakistani soldiers were killed in 29 separate incidents. The BLA claimed control over a motorway, confiscating soldiers’ weapons, and attacked a Coast Guard camp near Gwadar with grenade launchers.
The insurgents also claimed to have targeted military intelligence personnel in Gwadar’s Jiwani area using remote-controlled IEDs and carried out another strike on the residence of a Pakistani Army major in Mastung. Reports indicate six explosions at army installations in the provincial capital Quetta.
