Shocking Mid-Air Drama: Passenger Caught Smoking Cigarette Inside Air India Flight — Arrested After Landing in Jaipur

Jaipur: In a bizarre and alarming incident, a passenger on board an Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Jaipur was caught smoking a cigarette mid-air, despite the strict ban on smoking inside aircraft. The shocking episode occurred on Saturday evening, November 9, and led to the passenger’s arrest immediately after landing.

Smoked Inside the Aircraft Lavatory

According to airline officials, the passenger went into the lavatory and lit a cigarette during the flight. Soon after, the crew detected the smell of smoke coming from the toilet area and immediately initiated an inspection. Upon confrontation, the passenger reportedly argued with the cabin crew instead of admitting his wrongdoing.
Witnesses said that even fellow passengers tried to intervene, but the man refused to acknowledge his mistake. Smoking inside an aircraft poses serious fire and safety risks, making such behavior a criminal offense under Indian aviation law.

Crew Reported the Incident to Police

The incident occurred on Air India Express flight IX-2986 from Bengaluru to Jaipur. As soon as the flight landed at Jaipur Airport around 5:30 PM, the cabin crew, with assistance from CISF personnel, detained the passenger and handed him over to local police.

An official complaint was filed by Air India Express at the Airport Police Station, and the passenger was subsequently arrested under the Aviation Security Act. Police have also recorded statements from the airline staff as part of their investigation.

Authorities have reiterated that smoking inside an aircraft is a punishable offense and can endanger the lives of hundreds of passengers on board. The incident has once again sparked discussions about air safety awareness and stricter enforcement of in-flight conduct rules.

Note: Smoking, vaping, or lighting any flammable substance inside an aircraft is strictly prohibited. Violators can face hefty fines, imprisonment, and permanent flight bans.
