Raipur: In a significant development for the residents of Chhattisgarh’s capital, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao has approved the long-awaited flyover project on GE Road, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the city. The state government has sanctioned ₹173 crore for the construction, aiming to bring major relief from traffic congestion and ensure smoother connectivity between the railway station and the airport.
A Big Step Toward Streamlined Traffic Management
Raipur has been facing increasing traffic pressure, especially on key routes connecting the railway station to the airport. To address this, the Public Works Department (PWD) is working on several flyover projects.
The newly approved flyover—running from Guru Teg Bahadur Udyan to Netaji Subhash Chowk and further up to Guru Nanak Chowk—is a major part of this traffic restructuring plan.
With the Deputy CM’s approval, the PWD has formally sanctioned funds for the project, marking the beginning of a major infrastructure upgrade on GE Road.
Four-Lane Flyover to Bring Major Relief
The flyover, included in the 2025–26 state budget, will be approximately 1.5 km long and 16.61 meters wide, designed as a four-lane structure.
Once completed, it will significantly ease traffic at Shankar Nagar Chowk, Canal Road Crossing, and Guru Nanak Chowk, areas that frequently witness heavy congestion.
Residents can expect a smoother flow of vehicles across these choke points, reducing travel time and improving overall mobility.
Direct Access to the Airport via Expressway
The flyover will allow vehicles from Nagar Ghadi Chowk to directly reach Telibandha police station and further connect easily to the Atal Expressway, enabling swift movement toward the airport.
Traffic from Nagar Ghadi Chowk will be able to turn left before Telibandha Chowk and directly access the expressway—streamlining one of the busiest transit corridors of the city.
More Flyovers on the Way
Along with the GE Road flyover, several other projects are in the pipeline:
- A flyover is proposed at Fundhar Chowk on the expressway.
- The state government has already approved another flyover to connect Atal Expressway to VIP Road (Airport Road), with initiation work underway.
- Deputy CM Arun Sao has also announced that a flyover at PTS Chowk will be included in the 2026–27 budget.
Once these projects are completed, Raipur will have a seamless traffic corridor from the railway station to the airport, providing long-term relief from congestion and supporting the city’s growing urban needs.
