Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking case of medical negligence has come to light at Bhagyashree Hospital, Meerut, where a two-year-old boy’s deep eye injury was treated with Fevikwik adhesive instead of proper stitches, causing the child severe pain.
Incident Details
The child, Manraj Singh, son of finance professional Jaspreinder Singh from Jagriti Vihar Extension, sustained a deep cut near his eye while playing at home. His parents rushed him to Bhagyashree Hospital, expecting professional care.
According to the family, the hospital staff refused to stitch the wound, claiming that stitches would leave a scar on the child’s face. They allegedly instructed the parents to buy a small tube of Fevikwik adhesive for just five rupees to seal the wound. Trusting the doctors’ advice, the parents complied.
After the adhesive was applied, Manraj screamed in pain, but the staff reportedly dismissed it as fear and did not take further action. The boy’s discomfort intensified overnight.
Correct Treatment at Another Hospital
The next morning, the family took Manraj to a reputable hospital, where doctors were shocked by the previous treatment. Removing the hardened Fevikwik took nearly three hours, during which the child continued to cry in pain. After carefully removing the adhesive, the wound was properly treated, and four stitches were applied, stabilizing the child’s condition.
Parental Complaint and Investigation
Father Jaspreinder Singh lodged a formal complaint with Meerut’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), highlighting that the chemical could have caused permanent damage to the child’s eye, endangering his life.
The CMO has taken strict cognizance of the incident and ordered a thorough investigation, requesting a detailed report within a week. If found guilty, the hospital and responsible staff may face severe action for endangering a minor’s life.
