Karnataka’s former legislator and doctor, Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, is being widely praised for her quick thinking and heroic act aboard an Indigo flight from Goa to New Delhi. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also lauded her actions, calling them a remarkable display of courage and compassion.
During the flight, a 34-year-old American woman, Jenny, traveling alone, suffered sudden medical distress. She fainted and lost her pulse, creating a tense situation on the plane. Dr. Anjali immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), successfully reviving the passenger and ensuring she was later safely transferred to an ambulance upon landing.
Quick Action Averted a Crisis
Dr. Anjali, who was traveling to Delhi to attend a Congress event, noticed Jenny showing signs of a heart attack — cold lips, clenched fists, pale complexion — before the announcement was made. She promptly gathered the medical history from Jenny’s sister and administered CPR. Jenny regained consciousness but suffered another episode within half an hour. Dr. Anjali remained by her side until the flight landed, providing reassurance and medical assistance.
Siddaramaiah Applauds Heroism
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah praised Dr. Anjali on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I am deeply moved and proud of the extraordinary presence of mind and compassion shown by former Khanpur MLA Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar on a Goa-Delhi flight. Her timely CPR saved a precious life. Even while being active in politics, her inner doctor did not hesitate to help. This selfless act reflects not only professional expertise but also deep humanity and responsibility towards fellow beings.”
