Rohit Sharma Poised to Break Shahid Afridi’s ODI Sixes Record

India’s Rohit Sharma has a golden opportunity to surpass Shahid Afridi as the king of sixes in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the upcoming series against South Africa.

The three-match ODI series begins on 30th November at JSCA International Stadium, Ranchi, with India’s lineup featuring veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit was in phenomenal form during India’s tour of Australia, scoring a century and a fifty, earning him the Player of the Series award.

On the Verge of ODI Sixes Record
Rohit Sharma is currently second on the list of most sixes in ODIs. In 268 innings, he has smashed 349 sixes. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi tops the list with 351 sixes in 369 innings. This means that hitting just three sixes in the series would propel Rohit to the top spot, making him the new king of sixes in ODIs.

Rohit’s International Six-Hitting Feats
Rohit debuted for India in 2007. He has already retired from Test and T20 International cricket, but his records remain remarkable:

  • Tests: 88 sixes
  • T20Is: 205 sixes (the only player to hit over 200 sixes in T20Is)
  • Total International Cricket: 642 sixes in 535 innings

For comparison, Chris Gayle of the West Indies has 553 sixes in 551 innings, placing him second in the international list. Among active players, Jos Buttler is next with 182 sixes in ODIs and 387 across all formats, far behind Rohit.

With his powerful batting and timing, Rohit Sharma is poised to etch another milestone in cricket history, and the upcoming ODI series against South Africa could see him ascend to the top of the sixes chart.
