Patna: The new Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar has unveiled its cabinet, blending youth with experienced leaders. While several ministers are repeat faces, the latest lineup includes four individuals who have inherited both politics and ministerial positions, highlighting the enduring influence of political legacies in the state.
1. Shreyasi Singh – Jamui’s International Shooter Turned Minister
Shreyasi Singh, a BJP MLA from Jamui, secured a consecutive win in the assembly elections. Daughter of the late Digvijay Singh, a former Union Minister, Shreyasi transitioned from an accomplished international shooter to politics in 2020. After winning her second consecutive election, she was appointed as a minister in the Bihar government.
2. Santosh Kumar Suman – Following Father’s Footsteps
Santosh Kumar Suman is the son of Jitan Ram Manjhi, former Union Minister and a political ally once elevated by Nitish Kumar to serve as Bihar’s Chief Minister in 2014. Santosh will hold a ministerial position for the second consecutive term, continuing the family’s political legacy.
3. Samrat Chaudhary – Upendra in Bihar Politics
Samrat Chaudhary has been reappointed as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Previously a member of the Bihar Legislative Council, he contested and won from Tarapur seat in the 2025 assembly elections. Samrat is the son of Shakuni Chaudhary, a former minister in the RJD government, making him another example of inherited political authority and ministerial rank.
4. Deepak Prakash – From Political Lineage to Cabinet Post
The most surprising inclusion is Deepak Prakash, who was relatively unknown before his ministerial appointment. He is neither a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly nor the Legislative Council. Deepak is the son of Upendra Kushwaha, former Union Minister and current Rajya Sabha MP. As per constitutional requirements, he must get elected to either house of the Bihar Legislature within six months, officially bringing the legacy of both politics and ministerial office to him.
